How to be A Good House Guest

My roommates and I were looking for a place to rent but by the time our lease ended, we had toured many places but didn’t agree on one. We had the choice of either going month to month with our current Phoenix Apartment or settling on a place just because we ran out of time. Through the kindness of our friends, they took us into their home until we could find a place we all liked. After living at their place for a month, we learned quite a bit about being good houseguests. Let me share our knowledge:

Make a Gesture

If you can afford to, mention that you’ll throw in for rent while you’re there.

Help Out

Before every meal, offer your services. Offer to prep some of the food, help set the table or get drinks for others. Afterwards, when you’re all finished eating, don’t offer to help clear the table; just do it. Then, offer to help with the dishes. Don’t forget to help take out the trash as well.

Keeping A New Years Resolution

The month of January is ending and I’m curious to know how many of you in our Phoenix Apartments are still on track with your new years resolutions. Anyone?

I ask because I’ve never been able to commit to a year long resolution. NEVER. I get stoked during the last week of December at the idea of a new years resolution and really get on it the first week of January, but then it just goes away. Just like that. I applaud those of you who are able to stick through it. You’re an inspiration!

For others though, it can be scary to commit a year of yourself to something; especially when it’s easy to say you’ll start the next month or the month after that. Before you know it, it’s December all over again and you’re disappointed you pushed it back this far without realizing it.

Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall.

Okay, okay… so we do have a couple more days till it’s officially Fall but who would know that in this nice weather that we’re having today? The sun is out, the breeze is cool, and there’s no chance of a triple degree day, thank you very much. I’m so glad that summer is coming to an end!

In honor of this lovely upcoming Fall season, one of our Phoenix Apartments will be having an Autumn Pie Party which gave me the idea to write this pie entry. (thanks Deer Valley team!)

When any type of holiday comes around I always miss home. Why wouldn’t I though? I come from a rock in the middle of the deep blue sea that’s covered with sandy beaches, swaying palm trees, tropical breezes, the summer season is all year round, and the spirit of aloha is never hard to find. If you guessed I’m from Hawaii, you’re correct. Of course, I miss my family and friends the most, but what I miss second to them is the crazy amount of delicious food we have there. The pork’s sweet, the mango’s come pickled, rice is a vegetable, poi is the state food, pigs are cooked underground, and Spam is meat! Darn, now I’m hungry and missing home at the same time!

A Hiking We Will Go!

My roommate has been asking our group of friends to go hiking and since she’s been asking for a while, we finally said we’d go. MISTAKE!!! At least, that’s what I first thought.

I’m not a big fan of the sun, which is weird since I’m in the sunniest state of all. I just tend to worry about UV rays and sun damage a lot. I am THAT person who carries sun block and lathers as recommended. We pack our water and snacks and head on to Piestewa Peak on Sunday morning. It’s a cold day out and when my roommate decides that we hike Squaw Peak Circumference Trail, I’m all in… until it starts getting steeper & steeper.

And you are?

Hey you! It’s been awhile. This blog entry is a bit personal but I had to share. I came into the Trillium family almost two years ago as their social persona and visited our then 5 properties often. You know, the Asian girl from Hawaii – Jackie’s sidekick – voice on FB & Twitter– person? Anyway, I loved our unique Trillium residents and the different atmospheres you all brought to our sites. It was such a brief encounter, a bittersweet goodbye, yet I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Know why? Because news flash! I’m back in action and ready to go. As of Friday April 1st I became a full time Trillium-er again. I cannot tell you how good this feels. My emotions are running high as I’m settling into this new position.

thrilled, thrilled, thrilled.

So really, thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone in the Trillium family – especially Lesa & Michelle for believing in me & of course, you, for joining me on this ride that I can surely guarantee will be silly, crazy, moody, adventurous and above all, rewarding. Wish me luck!

always, g
