Tips for Keeping your A/C Cool in the Heat!

The heat is on in Arizona and so are the air conditioners! In order to allow you to stay as cool as possible in the Arizona “Dry Heat,” here are a few tips to keep you cool and reduce your cooling costs while living in your Trillium Phoenix apartment, or anywhere for that matter!

Tip #1 – Replace your air conditioner filter and keep it clean, especially during this heavy usage time. This helps the system run more efficient and keeps your home less dusty. We recommend that during the summer months you replace A/C filters every 30 days. Simply call the office and we’ll stop by and change it for you, complimentary!

Tip # 2 – Did you know that it takes more energy to cool your home down than to keep it at a consistent, comfortable temperature? Therefore, refrain from turning your system off when you go to work or leave for the day.

Tip #3 – Keeping your blinds closed will make a dramatic impact in overall cost savings, especially on windows that have a southern or western exposure.

Tip #4 – Be diligent about keeping all unneeded lights turned off. The heat from the bulbs adds to the increased temperature in your home.

If you encounter a problem with your A/C unit – please turn it off and call the office for immediate service assistance.

A few items to watch for are:

System not cooling
System producing only hot air
Water dripping from the air return or secondary drain
System making a noise that appears not normal

Dive In Movies Make a Spash at Trillium

It’s going to be a HOT summer here in Phoenix, Arizona, and there is no better way to spend a scorching summer evening then lounging in the pool (believe me, we know!). So, we’ve started Dive In Movies at Trillium this June (and all summer long). Last night marked the first event at Trillium Deer Valley, our North Phoenix apartment community located at 7th street & the 101.

The pool was packed when more than 60 residents (and lots of little ones) showed up to relax at the pool to watch the new version of Alice in Wonderland, which was just released on DVD this past week. Trillium provided free hots dogs, soda, chips and candy to all movie-goers.

Dive In Movies will be featured once a month at Trillium Cave Creek, Trillium Deer Valley, Trillium Papago and Trillium Pinnacle Peak throughout the summer. Be sure to check out the monthly event calendars so you don’t miss the date and time of the movie at your Phoenix apartment community!

Recently, Trillium decided to begin working with Resident Ambassadors to further their outreach to the community. We’ve sat down with each of them and are ready to introduce you! We’ve asked all four Trillium Resident Ambassadors the same 15 questions to get to know them a little better and more importantly, how to stay in touch with them on Facebook!

Marc Listrani is your Resident Ambassador at Trillium Pinnacle Peak. His creativity and love of life is synonymous with Trillium’s culture. We enjoyed getting to know Marc!

1. Tell me about yourself.
Well I am 39 years old and enjoy life tremendously. I am a Pisces to the fullest. I have lived in 12 different states throughout my life but AZ is by far the best. I have lived in AZ for over 18 years. I am Director of Product Development for Anthem College where I taught Graphic Design & Animation for 6 years. I have A BA in Multimedia with a Major in Web Design. I have been living at Trillium Pinnacle Peak since February 2009 and LOVE IT!

2. How did you become involved with Trillium?
A friend lived at Trillium Deer Valley where I discovered the lifestyle that Trillium is custom to.

3. What is important to you as a Trillium Resident and ambassador?
Community amenities and staff that help keep Trillium Pinnacle Peak looking and feeling the way it does. It is a great place to live, laugh and have fun all in one place.

4. What motivates or inspires you, in general? Enjoying life everyday… Arizona… looking in the mirror.

5. Describe a memory from your childhood home? What made it feel like home?
I used to hang out at our community pool nightly with friends when I was in High School… I do this now which makes Trillium Pinnacle Peak feel like home.

6. When you have free time, what do you like to do? What makes you happy?
Training hard in Trillium Pinnacle Peak’s AWESOME gym EVERYDAY… mountain biking, hiking, camping, auto modification, web design, sushi, vodka & wine, cooking & BBQing, learning, painting, building, poolside, road trips, exploring Arizona, creativity and anything in the water or on a mountain!

Interview with Lacey & Steve: How They Won Free Rent for One Year in Phoenix!

We chatted with Lacey Benz and Steve Zimmerman, the lucky winners of the Trillium Phoenix apartment free rent for one year contest. Here’s what they had to say about their experience throughout the contest, getting votes, and how they’ll spend all the money they will save on rent for the next year.

Lacey & Steve are getting married soon and have chosen to live at Trillium Pinnacle Peak, Trillium’s newest luxury apartment community located at the I-17 and Pinnacle Peak Road in Phoenix, Arizona. Trillium Pinnacle Peak features a gorgeous resort-style pool, in-house spa for massages and facials, an interactive water park for kids (and adults, from time-to-time!), a 27-seat Trillium Cinema, a Great Room filled with fun activities like pool tournaments, Studio Dining, game nights and much, much more!

How does it feel to win one year free rent?

It feels surreal! Are we dreaming?? Someone pinch us!

How did you “campaign” to get votes? What was your strategy?

Our strategy was to target as many different groups of friends & family as possible. We have contacts in London, Canada, Florida, California, Minnesota, & everywhere in between. Also, since we both are from Iowa, we knew our fellow “Iowans” would stand behind us 100%. Utilizing our strong Iowa ties, we emailed our entire church congregation, the country club directory (location of wedding ceremony & reception in August), & the Iowa State Alumni Association.

I contacted my sorority from Drake University & ISU & Steve’s brother (David) contacted his fraternity at ISU. My mom made up fliers & handed them out to anyone who crossed her path; Steve’s brother (Mike) posted our video on blogs he frequents. Facebook was also a huge help for us. My friends were targeted the first weekend of voting; Steve’s friends were targeted the final weekend of voting. My OT class at Midwestern rallied behind me the entire way. In addition to mass emailing friends & family, when we found out we were in the top three, we challenged our loved ones to email their contact lists as well. Lastly (& maybe our biggest smoking gun), Steve’s friend, a YouTube skateboard sensation, Aron Lawrence, posted our video link on a skateboarding video he made. His video alone had 7,000 hits the first week.

Why was it so important to you to win free rent for a year?

As most people can relate, money is tight right now. With the wedding coming up, and Lacey in graduate school (obtaining a master’s degree in Occupational Therapy), living on one income isn’t the most ideal situation.

Why is Trillium a great place to call home? How did you find Trillium in the first place?

Steve found Trillium when driving around at lunch one day. He used to live in Tempe and would commute to North Phoenix everyday for work. Sick & tired of the commute, he decided to explore the area around his workplace to see if there was something closer.

He discovered Trillium, took a tour, and decided to move as soon as his Tempe apartment lease was up. Trillium is the perfect place to call home because of the proximity to Steve’s workplace and my school (Midwestern University). It caters to both of our interests as I love laying poolside and Steve enjoys working out without having to drive anywhere. Trillium also holds a special place in our hearts since it is the site of where we got engaged! Every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and sometimes Sundays, you will find Steve & I grilling out, so it seemed appropriate to get engaged at our favorite Trillium hang-out spot.

What do you plan to do with the money you save from rent over the next year?

I have accrued a massive amount of debt in grad school, so the plan is to put the extra money toward my loan payments.

Anything else you’d like to add?

We would like to thank our strong Iowa base at home. Without them, we couldn’t have won! Also, we’d like to thank our families. They were very supportive during this entire process and motivated us to think of additional ways to reach out to potential voters. A special shout-out to the other contestants; we hope you all had as much fun with this as Steve and I did! Finally, thanks to Trillium for this wonderful contest! This is really a once in a lifetime opportunity! We feel so blessed and are excited to start our new life together, rent-free!

It came down to an insanely close race, but we’re excited to announce the winner of the year free rent at Trillium Phoenix apartments is…. Lacey and Steve!

Lacey & Steve won by getting 35% (3,349 votes) of the overall votes for their video. The runner-up, Bethany, had nearly 30% (2,788 votes) of the overall votes.

Lacey & Steve will be living at Trillium Pinnacle Peak for an entire year, for free. Everyone did an amazing job with their videos and with getting votes, thank you so much for participating and congrats to Lacey & Steve!
